merry xmas, beezies!
The best friend & I hosted a Christmas party at my place, and it was a pretty good success I guess. Haha, but it ALWAYS is :) This year, though, we kept losing power from the hurricane and storms, so we decided to not do a white elephant sort of thing. Instead, we decided to have it as like a laidback gettogether for people to exchange gifts and stuff since our last day of school was cancelled. But it ended up being like a second birthday hahahaha.
so I had an alright xmas. my mother had it pretty rough, though. My father–er, step-father… actually I don’t exactly know what to call him anymore… I guess I could go with “dad”… but anyways, he went down to texas to see his mother and her boyfriend and that bunch, while I (along with Mama Rose, my brother, and mi abuela) visited with the korean side of the family.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t as awkward as usual. I’m the only girl in the family–apart from the aunts–surrounded by little boys and a couple older ones. Generally, the boys are supposed to age with each year… but there is no present difference everytime I see them: they look almost the same and definitely act the same as the previous year. Well, ever since they were about nine. They still act around that age… except now the oldest of the boys (a junior in high school) is about 6′0″, and the youngest one is about 5′10″. Every year, we have a kind of procedure–or tradition– of how our family Christmas party operates.
- Host the party at the eldest brother’s house. (this is rotated throughout the family, but mainly the eldest and second eldest son).
- Everyone (except for the second eldest son) arrives at the house with their assigned food dish and presents for the children they were assigned.
- The second eldest son arrives with his wife.
- The three little boys are unaffected by any background distractions, disturbances, actions, etc. while they play their video games on the highest volume setting possible on the tele. This is accompanied by their shrieks and gasps, jeers and victory dances. Of course, these games have to be the NEWEST and the BEST games that they just received that day–and surprisingly they have a great amount of new games and systems given to them that day.
- The noise level then annoys the mothers and aunts, as well as the grandmothers and grandfathers, and they respond by shouting at the chillun to quiet down.
- The fathers and uncles are annoyed because the boys are utilizing the tv, thus they cannot watch their football. They then tell the kids to scram.
- The kids run upstairs and whip out their handy dandy nintendo DS’s, DS lites, and PSPs and continue to make ruckus from upstairs that is very much audible when sitting downstairs.
- My brother and I pretty much sit on the couch and maybe play with a PSP, watch some football, maybe have a snack, join in some conversation… or just be plain bored.
That is pretty much the procedure needed to recreate our holiday. Except, this one was a little bit different as my father wasn’t there to slouch next to me and crack some pretty awful jokes. My brother got a job at google and is now somewhat envied by my older cousins. But he had a lot of conversation to offer to the adults so I kinda stayed with the younger ones–which surprisingly are only like 1-3 years my minor… yet the gap seems so much larger.
Then I found the national Spelling Bee on espn haha. So we watched that and discovered that we are not as good at spelling as those little ones.
Um. Here’s some pics.

i get hungry late in the night hahahaha.

AMI! the dog. it’s supposed to be “friend” in French, right? But… my grandmother can’t pronounce that quite too well… so it turned into more of a “ah, me.” hahhaa.
